As a celebrant working on funerals, weddings, vow renewals and other ceremonies, I hear – and tell – people’s stories. I’ve written this colourful and inviting book to help you record your story. It might be with your legacy in mind. It might be that you want to record your memories for your own sake. Maybe you’ve toyed with the idea of writing your own memoirs, or biography, but haven’t known quite where to start. You can start here!

During writing, I had input from every living adult generation. That’s Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers, and The Silent Generation. It turns out we’re not as different as we might think! I have tried to make this fit everyone, without making assumptions about your gender, marital status, whether you have children, grandchildren, biological parents. If any of these questions don’t apply to you – ignore them, or change them so that they do apply! This book is intended to have scribbles, notes in the margins, afterthoughts, crossings out and doodles. It is meant to be used now – at this stage of your life – not some point in the future when everything is tidy!
There are questions to suit every mood – from fun quizzes to short questions to space to write an essay if you like – enjoy reflecting on what you’ve done so far, and what’s yet to come. Take the pressure off yourself, open a page at random and answer the first question you see. Or work through from front to back – it’s up to you.
